HIREPOOL GIVES COOLSTORE A LIFT

Date: 18 August 2009
The multi-million dollar construction of the Fonterra coolstore in Hamilton is quickly reaching new heights thanks to Hirepool’s comprehensive range of access and scaffolding equipment.

Hirepool, New Zealand’s premier rental solutions provider, is the primary provider of hire equipment on-site, offering man lifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts, cherry pickers and load handlers, to ensure the facility is up and running by the end of the year.

Haydn and Rollet is the principal contractor of the 21,000m2 site out at Te Rapa. There are 25 trades and 70 workers currently involved on the project, with the number of workers expected to rise to around 100.

Construction manager Craig McGuigan says they are pleased with the service provided by Hirepool, which has had hire equipment on-site since construction began in March this year.
“Not only did they offer the most competitive price for the job but they are a great crew and easy to communicate with,” he says. “They have two reps dedicated to the project who make regular contact with us and do all they can to ensure the best outcomes for any task.”

Hirepool currently has three boom lifts, ranging from 17.8m-22m and 10 scissor lifts, ranging from 7m-18m on-site. “We’re also supplying mobile scaffolding, generators, port-a-loos, commercial vehicles, water pumps and a fuel bowser, enabling contractors to re-fuel on the job,” says Hamilton Access Division Branch Manager Chris Dost.

Chris says as well as meeting the unique requirements of their customers, safety is a priority for Hirepool. “It’s our policy to ensure every customer is made aware of how to use and safely handle any access equipment.

“After meeting with the customer to establish what equipment is right for the job, we deliver the machinery and give them full instructions on how to safety operate the unit.

“Using our Hirepool Safety Guidelines booklet, we run through what to do, what not to do and what hazards to look out for. This process ensures access equipment users are aware of the safe methods of operation and have been given appropriate instruction in their use. Then it’s up to the customer to use the equipment wisely,” he says.

Haydn & Rollet construction manager Craig McGuigan says having a good health and safety procedures in place is crucial in the construction industry and Hirepool’s safety policy “ticks all the boxes”.

Hirepool Branch Manager Chris Dost says Hirepool is also prepared to go out of its way to meet client’s needs. “One special request we’ve had on this project was to come up with a device to keep the concrete floors from getting marked by the machinery. So we made up some ‘slippers’ which we wrapped around the wheels and they’ve done the trick,” he says.

Hirepool is the cornerstone business in the New Zealand Rental Group, a leading industrial services and distribution operator.
